Opinion: Why I'm Glad BioWare Might Change Mass Effect 3's Ending For the Fans(via @Kotaku) →
Today people got angry about Mass Effect 3—for a new reason. Today, people said that the people making the game were doing something “dangerous.” “Respect lost,” one fan said.
- Very interesting and polite opinion-piece!

I needed a break from Mass Effect discussions and returned to an old favorite of mine. Never fails to make me laugh.
Caution though - there is adult material in the other jokes on that website.

Should Video Game Creators Rewrite Endings That Fans Don't Like? - The Atlantic →
Very interesting indeed.
However - I am not sure if I should agree with the consideration that “fixing” the end of Mass Effect 3 would open doors for upcoming games to be releases unfinished and with promised updates. The growing awareness of gamers that they are not mere “fanboys and fangirls” but customers, who can make a difference by deciding to spend their money on good or bad products - will hopefully make named possibility obsolete. The tendency seen in the “Retake Mass Effect” movement - namely that fans will voice their opinion by withholding their cash from the problematic franchise (refusal to buy Mass Effect 3 DLC that does NOT address the named issue, refusal to buy any other Bioware products or even EA products) - gives me hope.Another large issues - from my point of view - can be found in the false promises, or as some prefer: faulty advertising, made by Bioware personnel predating the games release. Had these promises never been made, I doubt the movement would have received the momentum it has at this very point.

Bioware’s Broken Promises
There is an interesting post on the Bioware Social Network that shows the collection of false information and broken promises given by Bioware personnel concerning Mass Effect 3 and especially its ending
s. While some may disagree with me - and they are welcome to - I cannot help but feel betrayed and lied to. Why? Well, here are some examples:

“Experience the beginning, middle, and end of an emotional story unlike any
other, where the decisions you make completely shape your experience
and outcome.”
Interview with Mac Walters (Lead Writer)

“I’m always leery of saying there are ‘optimal’ endings, because I think
one of the things we do try to do is make different endings that are
optimal for different people “
Interview with Mike Gamble (Associate Producer)

“There are many different endings. We wouldn’t do it any other way. How
could you go through all three campaigns playing as your Shepard and
then be forced into a bespoke ending that everyone gets? But I can’t
say any more than that…”
Interview with Mike Gamble (Associate Producer)

“Every decision you’ve made will impact how things go. The player’s also the
architect of what happens.”
“You’ll get answers to everything. That was one of the key things. Regardless
of how we did everything, we had to say, yes, we’re going to provide
some answers to these people.”
“Because a lot of these plot threads are concluding and because it’s being
brought to a finale, since you were a part of architecting how they
got to how they were, you will definitely sense how they close was
because of the decisions you made and because of the decisions you
didn’t make”
Interview with Casey Hudson (Director)
http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2011/04/28/casey-hudson-interview-mass-effect-3.aspx
“For people who are invested in these characters and the back-story of the
universe and everything, all of these things come to a resolution in
Mass Effect 3. And they are resolved in a way that’s very different
based on what you would do in those situations.”
Interview with Casey Hudson (Director)
http://venturebeat.com/2012/03/02/casey-hudson-bioware-co-created-mass-effect-3-with-the-sometimes-cranky-fans-interview/
“Fans want to make sure that they see things resolved, they want to get
some closure, a great ending. I think they’re going to get that.”
“Mass Effect 3 is all about answering all the biggest questions in the
lore, learning about the mysteries and the Protheans and the Reapers,
being able to decide for yourself how all of these things come to an
end.”

Because we’re not all depressed enough…
One thing BioWare did right is to shorten the final conversation with Anderson, because this would just be rubbing salt in the wound.
(I at least haven’t gotten this in-game, even having 5k+ EMS and saving Anderson, so I’m assuming the, erm, sad part of it was cut.)
Don’t listen unless you have a box of kleenex nearby.
I was already crying my eyes out - this would have been good, at least for me. Damn you EA, damn you Bioware. -
